Fire Truck at School

What a fun day for Caleb's kindergarten class. The firetruck came to spray water on the ENTIRE class (3 different classes). It was also the principals last day due to relocating, so she had the honor of getting soaked too!

Kids on Campus gone wild

Today was really hot, 90 degrees hot. I took Ron to get a massage from my good friend Sally who works at the Union on campus. While we were waiting for dad, the kids and I roamed the quad. Of course, this is a time when I wish I would have brought my camera, but the camera phone was good enough! We found relief from the heat by the fountain. We also saw some interesting day wear by the college students that were still here. Caleb was quite amused by the rollerblader in her bikini bottoms (thong) and asked me why I don't wear my swim suit while rollerblading... ooooooeeeeeeee what a site that would be :) I personally liked the hippie looking dude wearing a toga! What a day !!!

Olivia's Recital

Olivia performed in her very first recital tonight. I'm sure it will be one of many as she is quite the performer. She couldn't wait to get on stage and she knew every step of her tap dance and smiled the whole way through. She was simply amazing to watch. I have a feeling I will become a stage mom. Just to show you how cute she was, here are a few photos. Of course I'm being partial, and all of the performers were simply adorable!!!

Caleb's Birthday

Today Caleb is 6!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable. He is such a sweet boy, so kind, so thoughtful and just a great little guy! To celebrate his birthday, I invited some old playgroup friends that he rarely see's anymore, due to being a big kindergardener, rented out a Rec center in town so they can run, play, eat cake and run and play.

On his real birthday (Calebism), I brought cupcakes to share with his classmates, his friend Rubin sayed "these are the best cupcakes EVER"... To bad he didn't get more in his mouth :) Then, Grandma, Olivia and I took him out to eat at his favorite restaurant "The Olive Garden". When they brought out the cake, it was so cute. He covered up his mouth in amazement just like he did when he was two! Of course, the camera phone doesn't take the greatest pictures, but it definately was a life saver to capture the moment.

Tricking Caleb and "I SMELL A GOLF BALL"

For some reason, Olivia finds great pleasure in tricking Caleb. In my quest to organize my garage, which BTW took 3 days, I was removing nails from some trim work from a recent remodel that I wanted to store up high on a shelf. About 30 carpenter nails were on the garage floor and I asked the kids pick them up so a tire wouldn't get ruined. They had the best time ever searching for these nails I dropped - UNTIL all of the nails were picked up. Caleb was quite upset that the job was over and wanted more to pick up.

Olivia got wind of Caleb's disappointment and took it upon herself to grab the nails out of the bucket and scatter a few on the floor for Caleb to find. This went on for about 30 minutes. Olivia said "Caleb, there's another one.. and another, and another".. He immediately ran to pick it up and felt like he accomplished something great. Ok, how mundane, but she did this about 20 times. A nail even got stuck in the cracks and she used another nail to wedge it out.

Later, when it was time to go in, Olivia turned to me and said secretly, "Mom, I was tricking Caleb", I said "Oh.. how did you trick him?", she said "Mom, I was hiding nails so he could find them, I love Tricking Caleb!"

So why is this important for me to share? When I was a kid, every summer night my dad took us (4 girls) out to the golf course where we lived to hunt for golf balls. We would find about 20 each night. If he let us go into the pond, SCORE... we would bring home as many as we could fit into our socks/shirts/pockets... Some nights were scarce and the competition was horrible to find the most golf balls. When one of us would get discouraged b/c the others would find more (usually Karen), he would throw one out and say "I SMELL A GOLF BALL" and we immediately looked for it and low and behold, there it was. He cracked up and still does when he tells that story.

So... the long and short of it is I think Olivia definatly has my dad's humor and wit and for her to think of ways to "trick Caleb" was too cute and funny! I still to this day am amazed my parents raised 4 girls... Well, we really were raised as boys, no pampering in dad's house. I never had a manicure/pedicure until my children were born. How weird is that?

Tomorrow is Caleb's 6th birthday party and I will post some pictures with all of his friends!

Lip Gloss & Pajama Party

What a great weekend. The weather was nice and the kids were so much fun to be around. Friday night, Ron took Caleb to B&N to study. While they were gone, Olivia wanted us to have a Lip Gloss and Pajama party. I thought, hum... what a great idea, I love to wear my pj's and what a great way to spend time with my daughter. We rented Cheetah Girls, her favorite movie and put the blankets and pillows on the floor, changed into our favorite girly pajama's and she put lip gloss on me and her every two minutes. Olivia's lip gloss taste's really good, so I let her put on as much as she wanted to. The boys came home and Caleb wanted to join us, so he ran upstairs to put on his pj's, he decided he didn't want lip gloss, but he got his favorite chap-stick. We watched the rest of the Cheetah girls and then it was time for bed.

Garrett

Olivia loves her friend Garrett and Garrett loves his friend Olivia. All I hear after school, "Mommy, can we go to Garrett's house?" Olivia loves to go to G's house, so we try to visit there at least once a week if not more.

Tonight, I took the kids to a Planetarium show which we didn't get to see because it was packed with kids. However, we ran into Garrett and his dad(Chris). Olivia IMMEDIATELY held hands with G and G was so happy to see Olivia almost like they were on a date of sorts. Chris and I decided to get out of there and go to the Ice Cream shop and I must say that Garrett was a perfect gentleman, Olivia slipped and Garrett immediately asked if she was OK and helped her up. When we went to order the ice cream, Olivia wanted a chocolate cone and Garrett said, "I want what she is having"... I can't believe how grown these two are and how sweet they are to each other and not their siblings... It's almost as if they give each other great comfort knowing that they do have a soft side, but no one else is privy to it. When Olivia is being strong willed, I say "thumb kiss", we touch thumbs and kiss, she adjusts her attitude because she knows if she doesn't, her visits with Garrett might not happen. Of couse, she still has attitude which is another blog story in itself.
